what is the best alternative treatment for metastatic breast cancer?
it all started as ductal carcinoma of the left breast. it would now appear to have spread to the lungs, and probbly other organs and the bones. of late, what appears to be metastatic spread in the lungs would no longer respond or react to the drugs introduce as chemotherapy

For breast cancer, start doing pranayam (breathing exercise) and you will get better gradually. You will know from the test results. You will get extra oxygen into the body, and cancer does not like oxygen.Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume later. Anulom Vilom – Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril then -keeping the left nostril closed deep breath-in through right nostril then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril. This is one cycle of anulom vilom. Repeat this cycle for 20 to 30 minutes twice a day(maximum 60 minutes in one day). You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed. Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and do for 20 to 30 minutes twice a day.(Max 60 min/day) Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently.

I'm sorry to hear that you or someone close to you has secondary breast cancer. Why do you say it 'appears' to have spread, is there a chance that it hasn't? What do the medical team involved advise regarding treatment? As far as alternatives go, there are alternative and complementary therapies that will make you feel better, but none that have been proven to be at all effective in treating cancer. I'm sure you know, since you've come this far, that wherever there's cancer there's someone waiting to make a fast buck out of people's desperation by selling ineffective and sometimes dangerous 'cures'. There are also well-meaning and caring people who will recommend diets, herbs etc. Then there are the cancer hobbyists who pop up on here most days - people who have never studied, had or been close to cancer but consider themselves experts because of something they've read or heard. If you are interested in any particular 'alternative', do a search on http://www.quackwatch.org before committing any time or money. And always be wary of unsubstantiated testimonials and anecdotes; you have no way of knowing if the person ever had cancer in the first place, much less was cured. If you don't use them already, I recommend these websites. Both have loads of information and both also have forums where you can talk to people who are or have been in the same situation as yourself, whether it is you or a loved one who has cancer http://www.breastcancercare.org.uk http://www.breastcancer.org Good luck

"Best" is really a relative thing with this. It would depend on a lot of factors. Was your cancer ER/PR positive, HER2 - neu over expresser positive, were you tested for topo II, did you try tamoxifen, herceptin and chemo when you had the first diagnosis? Etc, etc. I have been diagnosed with recurrent, local breast cancer. My first was ductal in right breast - Stage 2, second was also ductal, right breast, Stage 1. First time around I did surgery and radiation only. No chemo and did not pursue and alternative methods either. This time I had a mastectomy and have turned down chemo, tamoxifen and herceptin in favor of pursuing alternatives. Primarily - natural hormones, chinese herbs, acupuncture, etc in order to prevent metastasis. My cancer was strongly hormone receptor positive and highly her2 overexpressing. I highly recommend that you do a lot of research and reading. Only YOU can decide what the best course will be for YOU. I am very sorry about your metastasis. I wish you the best.
